HOLYOKE -- The Holyoke City Council used this week's Select Board meeting to spotlight the city's ties to volleyball history, while the Holyoke Youth Soccer League signaled that fall registration windows are closing for most age groups.

COMMUNITY -- At the Sept. 15 Select Board meeting, the council formally recognized Jimmy Camacho for his work documenting the history of volleyball in Holyoke and its connections to Puerto Rican culture. Councilor Tallheimer presented Camacho with a framed council resolution and a mayoral congratulatory letter from Mayor Joshua Garcia, both recognizing Camacho's research behind a new Puerto Rico volleyball exhibit at the International Volleyball Hall of Fame. Council President noted during her report that the Volleyball Hall of Fame's induction ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17, with tickets available for purchase, and that a mayor's reception tied to the event is set for 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 16.

YOUTH LEAGUES -- The Holyoke Youth Soccer League's website reports that registration for the Fall 2026 season is now closed for all divisions except Littlekicks (age 2) and the Grade 7-8 co-ed division. Families interested in other divisions are directed to join the league's waitlist, while spots remain open for Littlekicks and Grade 7-8 through the league's registration page. The league, which fields teams on nine fields across the city, is coming off its 64th season "KickOff 2026" event held in late August.
