Select Board · Meeting of September 15, 2026

Holyoke's City Council voted 10-1 to accept a $75,000 Massachusetts Gaming Commission mitigation grant for Hispanic Cultural District lighting and murals, with Councilor Sullivan dissenting over spending priorities amid recent High Street incidents. Councilor Devine reported the mitigation allocation had fallen from $219,000 in fiscal 2024 to just $75,000 now. Councilor Tallheimer called lighting "a public safety preventative measure," while Councilor Anderson Burgos said a new mural "represents this community with its heart." The council also sent Clean Slate Act and Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act resolutions to committee after three residents spoke in favor, and approved, 10-1, a King Street dog-training business permit with conditions limiting hours and dog counts.

Four finance grants, including $352,020.27 in MassDOT snow-and-ice funds, passed unanimously.
